-6°F Snow Camping in a Truck Shell at 9,200’ Elevation – Will Our Diesel Heater Keep Us Warm?

We have matched our coldest temperature we’ve ever recorded camping… until next weeks video! Only thing is this time we’re camping in a truck shell instead of our lance truck camper. We’re impressed with how the setup performed and hope you are too! Let us know in the comments, could you camp in this weather?

  1. I’m curious about pottying…. 😬 lol
I give you lots of props for your winter camping! Love following along! Marilyn C

  2. Amelia you’re the shorter of you two, so have Conner drive your "car" and you ride passenger. Then, put the Goal Zero in your floorboard and use it as a footrest. While you’re going down the road the heater will keep the Goal Zero warm so it works correctly when you need it. Best wishes to Barkley at the Vet!

  3. FY..I enjoy your videos. I am retired from driving a charter bus for 25 years and drove semi truck for 20 years. I noticed you put your chains on the rear wheels and slipped a bit. Is your truck 4wd? If so, you should put chains on front wheels for better traction and handling of truck. And of course have it in 4wd. Otherwise, I always look forward to your next travel log. Safe travels.

  4. Just to give you a break enjoy a hotel room with a hot tub. You can enjoy both and be comfortable in the wind and cold.

  5. Hey – we also use a truck top for camping. Ideas: place a rubber seal at the hinge of the tailgate to keep cool air, dirt out of back area; install a tailgate gas strut to help lower the tailgate and a belt to lift it when in the truck. We started out with a raised bed with storage underneath but finally decided to lower the mattress for headroom by getting rid of the underneath storage; mounted a rack on the camper truck top with a Plano weather tight box to hold items on the rack; we use lots of pillows for wall insulation as that metal is also cold; use a hitch mounted cargo carrier for other stuff and as a step into the truck top.

    Love the diesel heater idea.

  6. Just a heads up, Cougars arent really known for dragging a kill up a tree.. thats mainly a leopard thing.. Its usually a bird that pulled it up there, or even one of Santa’s failed JV reindeer.. lol

  7. What brand is the heater? I’m in Canada and sometimes it doesn’t let me open the US links… Thanks!

  8. Why not pick up a light weight folding table? Then you can cook on it and keep the back of the truck closed and warm?

  9. you are consciousness sui generis & priceless
we enjoy & admire your inspiring & insightful videos
your videos deserve far more views
if all powerful benevolent god is the true creator of every thing not the satans ruling you human slaves then
why would god want & need to create you human slaves to suffer heat & cold while create hot & cold climates ?
why would god want & need to create you human slaves to suffer diseases & disabilities while create diseases & disabilities ?

  10. I honestly have no idea why you think this was a good idea. We have owned motorhomes since 1979 and enjoy camping in all kinds of weather. But it is better to be able to enjoy the whole day.

  11. Stop and grab yourself a piece of canvas the size of the back of your truck. The width and height from ceiling down to the bed floor. That way, when you’re in there, you can put the canvas up and when you’re outside cooking, it will keep the heat inside. It will also help with insulating the tailgate and window at night.

  12. Okay, you kids are officially CRAZY!! I’m just not sure what y’all are trying to prove? But that is NOT worth it to me! I hope you can at least at some point very soon get a nice warm hotel with hot running water for showers! 😊Stay warm out there you two!

  13. Love, love, love this video! You had me laughing over the bedtime (too early) canundrum! All the elements of a real ‘day in the life’ were here in the raw. Sharing snippets of your relationship, being honest about your camper’s shortcomings, conquering the cold at night , enjoying the positive side of your experience makes this one of my favourite videos so far. Much respect! ✌️🇨🇦

  14. Me: Minus 6 isn’t that cold
Also Me: OH WAIT they’re in Fahrenheit. That IS cold

Love watching your videos from my warm living room by the fire in Canada.

  15. Don’t worry, I’m not going to try and give you any advice !!
You guys are on an epic adventure and thanks for taking us along, for the good times and maybe a few bad…

  16. Get a little buddy w a 20lb tank, for a 2nd heat source it will last 1 week on low w a usb fan for circulation

  17. WTF! Why aren’t you using the trailer? Poor Barkey! He deserves a better life at his stage of life. I don’t get it! Content?

  18. For the people that dont understand, its an ADVENTURE! Alot of people test the limits. These type of people typically have a higher survival rate in adverse conditions when things go wrong. I also like to live dangerously haha Side note, run the diesel heater full power for about 5-10mins before shutting off. It can help clean the combustion chamber.

  19. You guys are young and tough, That’s a fun way to camp though, we do the same but not usually in the winter, we also have a full size truck and 27′ travel trailer we use year round especially in winter, but the adventure rig is a tricked out gen 1 Tacoma with a Sport Hi liner canopy, rack, top storage and side awning, we Love it, really enjoy your adventures, Take Care!

  20. wondering if you were thinking about using an anti-gel liquid to your generator fuel to keep the fuel from gelling up?
