Solo Backpacking for the First Time as a Complete Beginner
I went on my first solo backpacking trip to get a taste for what it’s like, and I wanted to share the experience! It was a short and sweet trip – perfect for testing out all of my brand new gear, and getting a feel for what I’ll be able to do in the future.
The trail I ended up doing in Virginia is called Mount Rogers and Appalachian Trail Loop.

ah comeon! you know snakes are venomous not poisonous.
nice video btw, I am looking at doing similar in england
Im going to go camp solo first time, kinda nervous tbh ๐ฎ๐
i get that mood almost everyday
Great video! As someone gearing up for my first overnight backpacking trip, this was super helpful and exactly what I needed. Quick questionโare you using the 40L Hyperlite backpack? 7:57
Love a side quest! Great video!
This. Was. Awesome!
Am I the only one who freaked out at the wild bull? Heโs lucky it didnโt attack
Iโm only 13 and Iโve been on two backpacking trips in my life but theyโve both been pretty short but recently Iโve been having this urge to go out and him for a long time
Think I will pick a random day to hike miles and miles away from civilation to try and live in the wild…..hmmmm…Friday The 13th sounds like a lucky day to try my quest….
Hi there! Could you share what camera/set up you used? Thanks!
beautiful nature nice sharing ๐
dont remove leaves under your shelter as it acts as a good insulation
learnt in from scouts
Next time you should show us inside the tent!
Got the right backpack from the get go.
Nice.
Great video brother!!! Inspiring!! I’m 46, just started hiking about 5 years ago, and still haven’t done my first backpack trip. The way you described the experience is fantastic and easy to grasp. God bless and safe travels my friend!!
You picked an amazing place to start your backpacking experience. The Grayson Highlands are one of my favorites areas to hike in Virginia! Hope to see you on the trail sometime!
14 light afff
lol these kids xD
So you go to be alone in woods on path in woods xD ๐ okey, make sense. I go to mall for similar reasons and then I go to wildreness..
See I love this is shows that a backpacking trip doesn’t have to be overwhelming. I think lots of people can get bogged down in the prep and it can prevent people from just going out and doing it! You don’t need some big long adventure just a one night stay in the woods can teach you more than endless gear searching and youtube pack optimization! Great video you are inspiring me to hit the trail ๐
โWomenโs hiking poles that the guy told me were for menโ๐๐คฃ๐
also a very beginner haven’t done my first trip yet and got a dxurson x mid tent i hope this isn’t a cannon event
I hope the dog is ok
Keep it up! The more you go out the more youโll feel alive. Youโll grow more content with your life. Great job man.
Great production from all aspects. Simple, but great quality
I add in bug spray light sources etc so I think you smashed it!๐๐ค๐ช
Cliff bars are pretty good, they do stack nicely.
Good video. Btw which hokas are those?
Iโm sure you already know about them, but bear can keys are awesome. Really do make getting them open easier.
What backpack is that?
You did good kid, real good. You’re a natural born YouTuber. Keep the wit at all costs. Safe travels.
oh no. I can’t believe you had women’s poles! How embarrassing. You must have ovaries, now.
call to action? sound like a programmer to me lol
Only pack extra pair of underwear and socks.
Looking good. You are fine for more popular trails but if you start doing more advanced trails they tend to become less maintained and harder to follow. This is especially true for National Parks that by law can’t have machinery within their bounds. I say all this to mention it is a good idea to have a map and compass on hand. They weigh next to nothing and when you need them you are going to be glad you have them. I got lost once when I didn’t realize how poorly managed the trails were in one area and I definitely learned my lesson. You can also download offline maps on your phone. Nearly all smartphones sold today have GPS location on them so just makes sure to download the map before you go offline.
you do not need a canister for Virginia bears. Otherwise its a nice setup. The fun is getting it dialed in over time.
you walk on your toes to an extreme extent go to a physical therapist and correct it
Hello ๐ my outdoors friend, thank you for sharing this fine video. You did a fine job. Stay safe out there ๐๏ธ. ๐
๐๐๐ฒ๐จโ๏ธ
Awesome video mate โค
how is called that backpack you carry?
Sometimes you have to go alone, nobody else will go. I usually put an ad and invite others, it usually works; better than being alone! ๐
I think you learned what you probably needed to – I mean we all learn something on every hike. Where you are likely to get comments are on the bear can. Most people will use them only if absolutely required. They aren’t light. And, they aren’t really necessary.
I thought I was prepared the first time. Many mistakes early is a good thing. Hard lessons last.
I thought you were going to drink the creek water without filtering it๐
Excellent video. Thanks fpr sharing. It is obvious you really researched this before setting out. You da man! I made sure to sub! Maybe I’m the squirrel?ยฟ?? Lol
youโll most likely not read this; but this video saved me. it LITERALLY saved me. wasnโt paying attention to anything, was midway into a very deep borderline su*cidal episode, and then this video auto-played, and i started watching; and got a random burst of motivation to go on a walk, and it ripped me out of everything. istg man i was on the edge. i am alive commenting this because of your video. thank you.
You show your backpacking; I’d like to see camping footage.
What a great video to stumble upon! I’m also on my own journey of exploring solo backpacking, so this was really enlightening to watch. So happy that it turned out well for your first time! You definitely put in a lot of research and work into this. LOOOOVE the witty humor ๐คฃ
