  1. Awesome. I’d buy that quilt today if available. The soft touch of the alpha would be an amazing feel, and create a next to body micro climate that would probably allow a normal 30 degree down quilt to be used down to 20.

  2. thanks for scratching my "new gear" itch! i always like watching peoples videos of "new gear" but usually its all stuff ive seen before or the gear isnt very interesting. i for sure havent seen that quilt before and it looks super interesting!

  3. 😊 I think the quilt liner built in is gonna change up the quilt world!! Thanks for another great video!!!

  4. I made a sleeping bag liner out of Polartec Alpha (wool version). I actually found that the aplha liner was not good at all. It is relatively heavy and does not pack that small so I will resew it into some pants and a top which will trap heat better and require less material/weight). Also increases versatility.

  5. I guess the Alpha Direct is nicer against the skin than nylon if you sleep "naked". I would rather sleep in my wool base layers and have the Alphas weight in down in the quilt instead.

  6. Alpha direct was developed as an active layer, advantages are breathability, fast drying and little weight for good insulation, disadvantage: very delicate. Using an alpha direct hoodie, I know the fabric and I would never consider using that material as sleeping bag liner. Any contact with velcro might destroy parts of the fabric, velcro immediately pulls fibers, silk lines make more sense to me, also I don’t get the concept of a sawn in liner. A liner that can be removed and washed separately is for me the way to go, adds more flexibility. When separate liner is starting to tear, it can be replaced, so I don’t really get that concept. Apart from that, nice stuff.

  7. I like the idea of the Alpha liner for early spring, late fall, but for those of us who have 1 main bag, I worry it would really be too hot in the summer.

  8. That quilt sounds awesome!
    I simply love alpha direct.
For example, I could not get my feet warm tonight. At the end I took my DIY alpha direct backpacking socks and they got warm straight away. That material is simply amazing

  9. i just wear my alpha direct stuff whilst i sleep.

being very soft, its nice in the quilt but its overpriced since:

    a) better off with extra down for warmth and the down is lighter and cheaper than the alpha direct and

    b) the point about alpha direct is that it breaths when you work out so its kinda pointless as a liner unless you just love the feel on the skin if you are sleeping bareskin in your quilt.

  10. I’ve seen some r/myog posts on making quilts with alpha direct. I think they were in the Summer blanket variety, alpha direct sewn to nylon. I like the idea of the quilt, but I have a feeling I would want it removable to make the quilt more versatile, but who knows without trying it!

  11. Timmermade gear has something similar I was actually looking to get for summer it’s an over bag lined with alpha direct. You should look into their gear if you haven’t!

  12. This jacket is gold, my husband is always staying warm, so I’m looking forward to get myself one too!

  13. Saw you took ba chair , have been looking at chairs and the ba looks like it might be best option for confort….always thought the equinox or nemo would be way to go what are your thoughts

  14. Not trying to be critical of the quilt, but more down would make it lighter instead of adding the alpha liner. And from a condensation standpoint, the liner isn’t helping keep the moisture out of the down either. So I really don’t see the benefit of the liner besides maybe keeping the down cleaner away from dirt and grime

  15. .. Don’t know that I need another pack tent , but that Durston X-Dome looks like a win ….. as well as that lined Quilt ,, win #2 … On winter trips a shemagh far outshines a neck gaiter (buff) … have used down booties for years … huge win in winter …

  16. WOW, that quilt is awesome. I hate the feel of a sleeping bad on my skin, so I always use a liner and usually get all tangled up, especially when I get up in the middle of the night.

  17. Nice 🙂 for me the biggest downside of light quilts or bags is the fabric "feel" wise – touch to the skin, is not super comfortable – but i quite like the feel of alpha (often use it as sleep clothes) so really makes sense as an inner – OMM has used Primaloft active similar in their sleeping Core sleeping bags, so its not a totally new concept – but looking forward to UGQ releasing it

  18. Really awesome Quilt !!!! The idea to go with another inside fabric its Awesome .. its like aBuilt in liner ! #αQuilt

  19. Why do you use the term “unless you’ve been living under a rock”?
Maybe people are new to the industry and are grateful for your videos to learn from, but haven’t had enough experience to know everything they “should” know.
Please be kind. Don’t assume people know things, then insult them when they don’t.

  20. UGQ debuted the integrated alpha direct liner at this year’s Hangcon. For those of us who have multiple topquilts already, JacksRBetter and other vendors offer an alpha direct liner as a separate washable item for your bedding system.

  21. That’s a light pack for winter gear. That’s a really cool quilt. I have always wondered how a merino wool liner would work. Durston’s new tent looks sweet! I was feeling the anxiety with you crossing that ice over my that creek! 😱 Just hitting the freezing mark down there this time of year is not bad! Awesome stuff! 👍👍

  22. I bought an alpha pj set from farpoint to pull more warmth out of my quilt. They are great for sleep but also, being clothing, i can use them elsewhere.

  23. I’d much rather have an alpha direct/fleece inner than a separate liner that (at least for me) get twisted almost before I get into the bag. Personally, though I prefer layering with separate items and use sleep clothes that can double as camp clothes or an emergency layer.

  24. I saw this quilt Chad from UGQ brought to HangCon 2025 a few weeks ago. Awesome piece of kit from a great company. Floridahanger.

  25. That’s a great mashup of materials. I love my Alpha Direct hoodies. Wear them IRL bopping around town.

  26. I bet that Alpha Direct lines quilt is SUPER cozy. Cool concept. I’d also be curious to combine it with a "Zenbivy sheet mod" that allows this quilt to mate with one of ZenBivy’s lightweight sheets, sicne people seem to like the draft blocking abilities of the Zenbivy system. (The mod is just a series of loops strategically taped onto the top of a quilt to match the clips on the Zenbivy sheet.)

  27. Finally! I have added a small fleece blanket to my winter sleeping bag in the past: a similar idea – feels really nice. Of course that is ‘suboptimal’ when you toss and turn a lot in your sleep.

  28. How cold did it get at night and did u add a foam mattress under your zenbivy one I’m think of a cold weather pad

  29. I believe by adding alpha fleece to the bag should add great warm, but likely make the bag a high altitude, or colder shoulder season bag only. I have a "Magnet Designs" Alpha sleeping bag liner and it adds a huge amount of warm, to the point I can use it as a standalone bag in milder temperatures. Controlling the heat could be the issue with a built in liner. The nice thing about the Magnet Designs Alpha sleeping bag liner, you can back off the warmth, by either not using it at all, or just using it over your mattress like a sheet. I should mention I also have a couple of the long slender SQUAK Nalgene like bottles as well that make it easier to pull from a pack side pocket, and add some functionality like being a bag warmer without fear of a leakage. I am hoping these will be a great addition as I have never really been a fan of the smart water bottles primarily due to their narrow opening for refilling. I have not tested the Squak bottles on any backcountry trip yet, but will do a 5 day Strathcona Park canoe and mountain hike late this spring so will get a chance to knock them about a bit.

  30. Wow what an interesting lineup of gear!

Alpha direct liner. I saw someone try out a alpha direct only liner to sleeping in and they said it was awful. Even with a slight wind barrier I’m sure it can be great to sleep in as well. Alpha direct packs down really small so maybe it is better than down in that regard? And I’m curious how it fares vs. a mylar lining which is something I saw another quilt maker use to justify a 20 degree rating.

Rock Front, their rain jacket is still out of stock!

Ombraz, I wear prescription glasses and getting an Ombraz photo-chromatic pair seems enticing if not for the price.

REI Flash Air, looking at getting a lighter pack and this is in my top 3 for consideration.

  31. If you have ever wondered about Devin being a magician just watch him pack a backpack. The UGQ quilt with the Alpha direct bottom layer was a cool as you would expect and the X-Dome didn’t disappoint either. People aren’t going to talk about it, but that RockFront down jacket was amazing.
